Kangaroo Farm

Friday  was spent with my HS Spanish teacher at the Kangaroo farm in Arlington.  She spoiled them with stuffed animals telling me, "I need some grandchildren to spoil."  I can't argue with that!  The last time we'd been was when C was about 2, the kids loved it.  It's small, but lots of different animals that the kids can interact with.

An Asian bird-beautiful!

V checked out the free roaming peacocks. A few weeks before we were there was mating season, the owners who live on the farm said it was insane how noisy it was.
Petting the tortoise.  Because he can't run away.

Did you know there are albino Kangaroos?  There were quite a few-the guide explained the genetics and % chance to us.

The lone deer in the Kangaroo pen.  No one is allowed to pet him as he's skittish.
They gave us leaves to feed the kangaroos and wallabies.

On our way out of the kangaroo pen C whispered to me, "mom! Look!" a pair were making some baby kangaroos.  C was laughing hysterically.

More turtles...

V kept saying as she walked through the kangaroo pen, "there's poo everywhere! Why is there poo everywhere!"

This peacock scared the bejesus out of us when he flew off the roof to the ground next to us a minute after I took this picture.

The burros were sweet and you could hand feed them.  This zoo was brilliant, we pay them to feed the animals for them.  Seriously awesome business plan!

And pigmy goats.

The peacocks were just starting to lose their plumage.

The largest rodent- a Capybara

Talking about the girl ostritch

The boy ostrich sitting on a next of rocks because the girl laid eggs in prior years and he never sat on them, so she didn't lay any this year.  This poor couple needs some counseling to get on the same page, I guess.

H kisses an alpaca (with a little treat as incentive).  Proud of him!  He was the only one besides an adult woman in our group who had the guts to do it! He even did it a second time when I didn't get a good picture the first time.

The icing on the cake is getting to hold a baby kangaroo.

Then we had a nice lunch together and she distributed their gifts.  The kids were thrilled with wooden tops she'd brought them from a recent trip to South America.
