Summer 2026

Summer means strawberries!  I grabbed 3 flats of jam berries, froze the "good" ones, and made strawberry lemonade concentrate with the rest.  We love this stuff- you can put it in any size jar because the ratio is 1 container of strawberry lemonade concentrate to 3 containers of water.  I made 1/2 of it with splenda and 1/2 of it with sugar.  I tried to keep the sugar ones smaller.

I have not been doing a lot of running.  Running on pavement hurts my hamstring, the trails have been muddy and mosquito-ey.  I did do a group trail run this summer with the local group and we headed to the bottom of Ball's Falls and had a swim-

My parents came to visit and we got my mom up on a paddleboard!

I dropped them off at the airport and then picked up my friend from the airport and we checked out a Rage Room-you get a certain number of items and time to smash stuff-safely.... then we went to a local escape room. While hubby and I do home escape rooms with the kids pretty regularly and have done one in person, my friend had never done one, so we picked the local one for beginners 2-3 players and got out in THIRTY-FIVE minutes!!!  It was really well done and they use floodlights and magnetic locks to help guide you thru one puzzle at a time.

V also got their hair long enough to donate again! This is their 3rd donation (a donation needs to be 12 months and takes 3-4 years)

V had a nice, short haircut to go off to Metis camp at Awenda Provincial park. There were 9 campers for 6 counselors and they spent 5 days camping out, doing a lot of canoeing and other Metis traditional activities.

Then after a few days of catch up chores V and a friend of mine were ready for some small adventures.  First we checked out a sunset boat trip on Empire Sandy

then checked out the Lantern Festival in Welland the next day:

Hubby and I (and partially C) decided to try Whole 30 elimination diet for 30 days and we learned a lot and ate so many vegetables and no sweeteners.  We did feel healthier at the end but were both pretty cranky and decided we need carbs and sugar to be happy :)

We are now doing stuff around the house, cooking up stuff in the fridge and pantry and getting ready for V to go back to school in September (H is doing online school to get their secondary school diploma and C is looking for employment after finishing a general 2 year college degree online over the summer).
